70 years ago our nation fought in the last world war. The pain, and suffering, and death haunted the minds of the soldiers, but did not stop them from fighting for their values. Many gave their lives, or a grand portion of it, to fight for freedom.
Over 60 million people died in that war. That isn't the only time America has had to fight for rights. World War 1, the War of 1812, the Civil War- among others, are all evidences that there's something out there worth all of the sweat, toil, tears, and death.
Freedom is a priceless.
We may think that war is now far away and only occurring in distant lands. We may feel far from danger here in our advanced first world country.
But the truth is that war is certainly not over. We are in the midst of one of the greatest terrors known to man. We are at war with our minds. Silent bullets hit the hearts of so many all around us- but the fallen are hidden behind the mask of their own faces. Unseen chains bind the thoughts of our brothers to dark empty places which are only an illusion of what seems appealing.
Yes we are fighting a war. A war so tactful and disguised that even though it is occurring constantly, people walk by, without really seeing it’s destruction.
A battle of the mind includes being unforgiving of ourselves, an overruling want to be perfect, addiction, among other internal conflicts. It also includes mental illnesses such as anxiety, eating disorders, and depression.
That is why I started this blog. We need to recognize that this is happening! People are struggling and groping through the tunnels of their own minds. Depression, Anxiety, Mental Illness, and other Disorders are real trials, and I believe have never been more prevalent then they are today. We still need heroes who are willing to fight for freedom- freedom of the mind.
PLEASE follow this blog, share it with anyone you know- to help others who are fighting this inner war.
I hope that through this blog, I can bring a glimpse of hope and light to those who are struggling with these battles.
Like one of the speakers said at the last General Conference, some women feel like we need a cause. What better cause than this? The contest for the souls of countless women and men who battle these often hidden battles of the soul. How courageous when one soul can speak out and voice that which has hitherto been individual, private battles in a sea of loneliness! Yay for Cassia! How terrible when we each are fighting the same battles, side-by-side, and unknowingly could strengthen each other by banding together and share the load, the worry, the depression, the anxiety. You are a wonderful young woman who, from the depth of your experience, can now reach out with true empathy to mourn with those who mourn and bring hope, light and strength from your own battle. Love you so much!!!
